SPG Superannuation Operations Forum 2026

Designed for superannuation operation, implementation and technology practitioners, the Forum will bring together funds, administrators, gateways, payroll and service providers with the Australian Taxation Office for two practical working sessions focused on major operational changes currently facing the industry. 

Overview

On behalf of the Financial Services Council, I am pleased to invite you to the SPG Superannuation Operations Forum 2026, being held on Thursday, 22 October at Crown Sydney, alongside the FSC Retirement Summit.

Designed for superannuation operations, implementation and technology practitioners, the Forum will bring together funds, administrators, gateways, payroll and service providers with the Australian Taxation Office for two practical working sessions focused on major operational changes currently facing the industry.

The emphasis throughout the day will be on implementation: what needs to happen, what remains unresolved and how the ATO and industry can work together on the next stages.

ATTEND ONE OR BOTH WORKSHOPS

There is no cost to attend, and participants can register for either workshop or the full day.

Workshop One can be attended in person or virtually via Microsoft Teams. Workshop Two is an in person working session only.

At the conclusion of the Forum, participants are also invited to join delegates from the FSC Retirement Summit for networking drinks at Crown Sydney.

Places are limited to 80 participants per workshop and will be allocated in order of registration.

10:00am WORKSHOP ONE: Better Targeted Superannuation Concessions (BTSC) In person or Microsoft Teams

 The ATO will outline its focus for the next 12 months, followed by a facilitated requirements workshop to build a common understanding of the BTSC design and implementation approach.

Together, the ATO and industry will work through fund activities, implementation requirements and outstanding issues that still need to be resolved.

The workshop will conclude with an ATO update on STP, MATS and fraud. 

12:15pm NETWORKING LUNCH

A joint networking lunch will bring participants from both workshops together before the afternoon program. 

1:00pm WORKSHOP TWO: PayDay Super Post Implementation Review In person only

 Three months into Payday Super, this workshop will bring together the ATO, gateways, the payments network, employers and payroll to examine the experience to date.

The session will focus on lessons learned, what remains outstanding and the work still required to fully operationalise Payday Super by 1 July 2027.

The afternoon will include an industry panel, facilitated table discussions and an open expert Q&A, providing participants with the opportunity to raise practical implementation issues and contribute to the discussion on what needs to happen next.

 As CEO, Michelle leads governance of the Superannuation Transaction Network (STN). Engaging with the superannuation ecosystem’s wide stakeholder interests, she is a passionate advocate for the STN and the efficiencies it delivers for the benefit of the superannuation industry and fund members.

Michelle’s expertise includes cyber risk management, challenges and actions to improve cyber resilience in the superannuation ecosystem, and is passionate about continuing to drive industry collaboration on this topic.

Michelle has over 25 years’ experience within financial services across operations and strategy roles.

Michelle is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting from Macquarie University. 

Jason Low headshot Jason Low Head of TAPS, The Association for Payroll Specialists (TAPS) Read bio
TAPS is Australia's leading payroll association representing over 8,000 payroll professionals. They provide a range of services to help payroll people stay up to date with Australia's complex payroll environment, including a helpline, weekly newsletters, training and payroll health checks. Jason has 30 years of payroll experience and has assisted with STP design as part of the ATO Payroll Working Group. He is also a popular writer and speaker on payroll-related topics.

Shane leads the ATO’s core Payday Super initiatives, including enhancements to SuperStream, improvements to Single Touch Payroll (STP), and the retirement of the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH). With a strong track record in delivering complex reforms across the superannuation system, Shane brings deep technical expertise and a practical, collaborative approach. He is known for building trusted relationships across industry and government, and for bringing a personal touch to driving meaningful change.

Hans van Daatselaar is the inaugural Executive Director of Implementation & Operations at the Financial Services Council.

Hans van Daatselaar leads the Financial Services Council’s Superannuation Implementation practice, helping funds and their providers navigate regulatory change, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen industry collaboration with regulators.

With over 20 years’ experience in superannuation administration and policy implementation, Hans has contributed to key government and industry initiatives, including the ATO Payday Super Working Group, SuperStream Reference Group, and APRA’s Superannuation Data Transformation Strategic Forum.

He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has completed executive programs at Oxford, INSEAD, and Harvard.

David Delaney is a Superannuation Specialist, Implementation & Operations at the Financial Services Council.

With over 26 years in the Financial Services industry, David brings a comprehensive perspective on business operations and IT service delivery. For the past 15 years, he has specialised in the Superannuation regulatory landscape, developing a deep understanding of legislative frameworks and their practical application across the sector.

His work focuses on ensuring that regulatory changes are not only compliant but also efficient in design and execution. His passion lies in aligning regulatory intent with operational practicality and playing an active role in advocacy and consultation with key industry stakeholders. This includes ongoing collaboration with regulators.

David brings a strategic, outcomes-driven mindset to all projects, ensuring robust engagement between regulatory bodies and industry participants, and driving innovation in compliance through strong IT service delivery foundations.
