FSC Retirement Summit 2026

Thursday 22 October 2026 Crown Sydney

The Financial Services Council's Retirement Summit brings together senior leaders from across superannuation, investment management, financial advice, platforms and the broader ecosystem of service providers to examine the next phase of Australia's retirement system.

Overview

The Financial Services Council’s Retirement Summit brings together senior leaders from across superannuation, investment management, financial advice, platforms and the broader ecosystem of service providers supporting the industry to examine the next phase of Australia’s retirement system.

Held in Sydney, this full-day conference leverages the FSC’s unique position across the wealth ecosystem to convene the decision makers responsible for shaping retirement outcomes for millions of Australians. Designed for a senior audience across strategy, product, investment, advice, technology and policy, the Summit focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

As demographic pressures accelerate and expectations of retirement evolve, organisations are being challenged to rethink how retirement income is designed, delivered and managed.

Through expert keynotes, strategic panels and practical case studies, the program will explore:

  • The next generation of retirement income solutions and product design
  • The evolving role of advice in increasingly complex retirement decisions
  • The growing role of private markets and alternative assets in retirement portfolios
  • How data, AI and digital capability are enabling more personalised and scalable retirement outcomes
  • The policy and regulatory settings shaping the future of the system

Over the coming decade, more than two million Australians are expected to transition into retirement. Meeting the needs of this cohort will require new thinking across investment strategy, product innovation, member engagement, advice delivery and system design.

The Summit provides a forum for the industry’s most senior voices to challenge existing approaches, share practical insights and contribute to the conversations shaping the future of retirement in Australia.

The conference will conclude with an industry dinner and awards ceremony, bringing together leaders from across the superannuation, wealth and advice sector for high-value networking and to recognise the contributions of FSC members to policy development and industry leadership.

9:55am From Saving to Spending: Global Insights into the Future of Retirement Keynote

Australia has built one of the world’s leading retirement savings systems, yet one of its greatest challenges lies beyond accumulation. How do we give retirees the confidence to spend, invest and live well throughout retirement?

Drawing on J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s global retirement research and behavioural insights, Daniel Oldroyd will explore how people actually behave in retirement and what this means for investment design, retirement income and member engagement.

Using global data and case studies, the session will examine how leading retirement systems are responding to longevity, spending confidence, sequencing risk and personalisation, and what Australia can learn from international best practice.

11:00am Demonstration 1: Every Retirement Begins With a Different Question Demo

Retirement decisions rarely happen in one tidy conversation. They move across systems, channels and sometimes years, losing context every step of the way. This live demonstration brings a real retirement scenario to life using AI-powered guidance to show what's possible when technology, modelling and advice work as one connected experience. The member never repeats themselves. The adviser never starts from a blank page. If every retirement begins with a different question, what happens when technology follows the conversation?

11:10am The Changing Nature of Retirement Research + Panel

What does retirement look like for Australians today, and how is it changing?

The session will begin with new demographic and social insights from McCrindle, examining how longer lives, changing work patterns and evolving expectations are reshaping when and how Australians retire.

Building on the research, an industry panel will explore what these changes mean in practice. As retirement becomes a more fluid and individual journey, how should superannuation, advice, products and services evolve to support greater flexibility, personalisation and choice throughout retirement?

Australians have more places than ever to turn for help with their money and retirement, from traditional financial advice to digital platforms, social media, online communities and emerging advice models.

This session brings together different perspectives on how Australians are finding and consuming financial information, who and what they trust, and how expectations are changing. What can traditional advice, technology and new financial voices learn from each other, and how can they collectively help more Australians make confident and informed retirement decisions?

3:30pm Delivering a Quality Retirement: The Evolving Role of Superannuation Trustees Panel

As expectations of superannuation trustees in retirement continue to evolve, so too does the question of what it means to help members achieve a quality retirement.

Retirement outcomes extend beyond generating income from super, encompassing financial security, confidence, choice and resilience as members’ needs and circumstances change.

This session explores how trustees can progressively support high quality outcomes in retirement, from product design and member engagement through to guidance, and more personalised services, across the spectrum of members’ needs. Panellists will also consider the role of superannuation trustees in better connecting members with the broader retirement ecosystem, including support for matters that extend to their financial needs beyond super, such as aged care and estate planning.
