Your Privacy
The Financial Services Council is committed to protecting the privacy of members and non-members and ensuring the security of personal information maintained within the organisation. The Financial Services Council maintains all personal information in accordance with the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.
Collection & Use of Personal Information
We may record the names, position held, employer name, business addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail addresses and information on the Financial Services Council services used by employees of member companies, individual members, conference attendees, conference and official Financial Services Council function participants, speakers, and non-members on the Financial Services Council database. In some cases we may also record home contact details and e-mail addresses where these been provided as the preferred means of contact.
We will only collect information that is required by us to deliver our services to you and we will do this in a fair and lawful manner. We will endeavour to keep and maintain the data held by our organisation as accurate and up to date as possible. You can assist the Financial Services Council in our efforts to strive for accuracy by letting us know as soon as possible if your contact details should be changed. We use information collected to:
- process your application(s) and payment(s);
- communicate with you in regard to a Financial Services Council service or activity;
- disseminate information that may be of assistance or interest to you in your business;
- alert you to other Financial Services Council activities/services that may assist with your ongoing professional development;
- provide your organisation with the opportunity to participate in general industry promotions ie sponsorship, advertising, industry profiles and exhibitions; and
- assist in the development of new or enhanced products, surveys or services.
You can ask to be removed from a Financial Services Council mailing list or database at any time by contacting the Privacy Officer by e-mailing info@fsc.org.au. Members are also able to update their own details and change their login details like usernames and passwords, those unsure of what their current login details are should contact the Financial Services Council.
We will not provide your personal details to any other person or organisation other than for the purposes of undertaking Financial Services Council business. Organisations may also include mailing houses who distribute information to you on our behalf and market researchers who have been specifically commissioned by the Financial Services Council to ascertain the value of Financial Services Council membership to you.
We may also from time to time disseminate statistical information about our members to third parties but this cannot be traced back to individuals. Except where we are legally required to do so, we will not disclose personal information concerning you to parties outside the Financial Services Council, other than for a purpose that has been made known to you and to which you have given your consent. Your name and other details held by the Financial Services Council may be passed on to protective services or law enforcement agencies for security purposes at Financial Services Council events if officially requested prior to an event or function.
Credit Cards
When you purchase goods or services from the Financial Services Council, your credit card information is used to process the payment. The original request/application/enrolment form is stored securely in the secretariat office for audit/taxation requirements and to assist members and individuals who request duplicate information for their own records. These documents are then destroyed. Our database only records that you attended an activity or purchased a service and how much you paid for it. We do not store your credit card details on our database.
Storage and Security of Personal Information
The Financial Services Council maintains strict standards and security procedures to prevent unauthorised access to your personal information whether it is in an electronic or paper format, and to ensure the correct use of this information. Your data is stored in a central database that is password protected with access available only to authorised persons. Paper documents are kept in filing cabinets in the secretariat offices and can only be accessed by authorised persons.
Once we have collected your personal information, you are entitled to request the details of the information we are holding about you. In order to request such information you need to contact us by letter, email or telephone and outline the nature of your enquiry. A response will be made to you in writing either by mail or email (as per the details held on the Financial Services Council database) as soon as possible. For privacy and security reasons, it will not be possible to provide you with your personal details over the telephone.

What we collect
When you browse the Financial Services Council Website, our Internet service provider and NetTracker program logs the following information for statistical purposes:
- your server (IP) address;
- top level domain name (eg .com, .gov, .au, etc.);
- the date and time of your web-site visit;
- country your server (IP) is located in
- the pages you looked at;
- the type of browser you used
- the previous site you visited; and
- the site you visited next.
We will not use information obtained from your browsing activities to send you any unsolicited information. This information is collected in order to determine the relevancy of material posted on the Financial Services Council website and to enhance this service to visitors.
We will only record your e-mail address if you send us a message. We will not add it to a mailing list if you ask us not to. Simply send an e-mail to info@fsc.org.au and ask for your details to be removed from the mail list.
